Covid-19's Impact on Job Roles

May 28, 2020

We all know that our futures are going to be different. There will be no return to normal.

We wanted to understand how this would impact on the job roles of people in our agencies and businesses. We asked what changes people expected to see regarding full-time employees, part-time, freelance and outsourced functions, such as HR, payroll, etc

Not surprisingly, full-time employee numbers were forecast to decrease with 33% saying less and only 17% saying more.

There was definitely a move to part-time with 32% of the Tribe saying more part-time and only 9% saying less. However almost 60% said things would remain the same.

The biggest change concerned freelancers with 64% of respondents saying there would be more freelancers in the future. 12% said the same with 24% saying less.

In terms of outsourcing such as HR, Legal, payroll, etc 47% said it would stay the same, however 44% said there would be more outsourcing in the future.

And where will our people be, whether they are full-time, part-time or freelance – 91% said there would be an increase in homeworking. And everyone recognised the need for more flexible working. The workplace has changed forever.

This will possibly be our biggest challenge as we determine the roles for our people that are relevant to changing client needs, new skill-sets and capabilities, home-working and economies that are in recession.

In our next blog, we’ll look at the implications of home-working on agency culture.
